With New York City and London's fashion weeks finished, it's time to take a breather midway through fashion month. Here's our pick of the best Spring-Summer 2014 beauty trends so far.
Strong lips
Where - Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, Antonio Berardi
As part of a wider trend for a sort of 1950s avant-garde futurism, stylish strong lips added a major pop of color, often playing off against equally bold eyebrows, but equally often not. At Altuzarra, Tom Pecheux paired rich scarlet lips with white eyes: "the red lip gets an edgy feel against a white eye... making it more cool," he explained. The heavy lip colors also looked fabulous with a pair of mirrored retro sunglasses, another Spring 2014 trend.
Superbare skin
Where - Edun, Alexander Wang, Richard Chai
Bare-naked beauty looks abounded this season, with the top prize going to Pat McGrath's work at Victoria Beckham, creating what she called "the ultimate nude." At MM6 Maison Margiela and Marc by Marc Jacobs the bare skin was offset by simple blocks of an accent color and nothing else, while at Diane Von Furstenburg models were equally low-key, except for a healthy glow, designed to look like the result of a summer off in the Hamptons.
Classic nails
Where - Everywhere
A number of brands stuck with the nail art trend this season: Opening Ceremony teamed up with Estée Lauder for patterned nails in the cosmetic company's classic colors, while the models at Kate Spade were each given a bespoke colored French manicure to complement their outfit's colors by nail supremo Deborah Lippmann. Still, the overriding trend this season in London and NYC has been for simple one-color nail polish, with no frills.
