With a goal to protect the environment, 11 leading cosmetic companies joined together to explore challenges, opportunities and solutions for implementing a return system for cosmetic packaging in France.
L’Oréal, Pierre Fabre, CHANEL, Yves Rocher, Clarins, Laboratories SVR, Melvita, Nocibé, La Rosée, Sephora and Aromazone have joined the coalition.
The initiative was led by Circul'R, a circular economy consultant, along with support from We Don't Need Roads (WDNR) and Citeo's reuse fund, Cosmetics Design reported. The collective's goal is to reduce single-use packaging—and a pilot program will debut at point-of-sale for skincare products by the end of this year.

The Coalition’s deposit for reuse model supports three parts of the cosmetics industry.
- The Environment: In seeking to reduce single-use packaging companies can reduce CO2 emission and water consumption associated with manufacturing processes. Deposit for reuse model can achieve significant advances in sustainable operations and environmental gains.
- Regulations: In Europe and France, the AGEC law and trends move towards more reusable packaging. In Europe the AGEC law sets a draft regulation on packaging and packaging waste. France sets a target of no more single-use plastic packaging on the market by 2040.
- Consumers: Following the goals in France, the coalition hopes to adopt more sustainable consumption practices. A study recent found 94% of consumer say they are ready to switch to reusing their shampoo bottles, and 88% of consumers have already adopted reuse practices.
